As children, Maya and Kala had a severe speech impediment that required them to receive intense speech therapy starting at three years old and throughout elementary school. While in elementary school Maya and Kala rarely spoke in public because they were often teased. With the support of their family and dedication of their speech therapist, they became confident young ladies. After many years of being ashamed to speak in public, now all Maya and Kala want to do is talk; talk to children about bullying and its impact, encourage children to find their uniquenesses, and inspire children to push through all of their adversities to lend their voice to the world.
